New Orliman Jewett braces with three-dimensional adjustment

Orliman’s new braces offer improved fit and comfort.

At Orliman, since the beginning, we have been committed to innovation in all of our products. The goal is to provide solutions with more functional orthoses that feature a high degree of cutting-edge design and technology. We also strive to adapt to the needs of the market and our customers. An example of this is the new Sternotech, the latest concept in Jewett hyperextension braces.

Jewett hyperextension braces help to keep the back straight in cases of injury, illness or surgery when treatment requires the unloading of pressure on the spine, prevention of pain, limiting of mobility and correction of inappropriate postures:

  • Compression fractures.
  • Vertebral pain due to secondary metastasis.
  • Spondyloarthritis (associated or unassociated with arthroscopic sclerosis).
  • Chronic lumbalgia, lumbosciatica and dorsalgia.
  • Medium-term immobilisation after intervertebral disc surgery.
  • Stable vertebral fractures of the lower dorsal spine and lumbar spine.
  • After unstable vertebral body fracture surgery.
  • Vertebral body tumour and metastasis surgery.
  • Decompression spinal surgery (with or without internal fixation).

A Jewett brace is a rigid limited-contact orthosis that acts on the body by means of a system that features three pressure points: chest, back and pelvis. A common problem with these kinds of orthosis, however, is that they are often rendered ineffective as the prescribed treatment because they are uncomfortable to wear, difficult to fit and excessively heavy.

This is not the case with Orliman’s new Sternotech model. Its new design features three-dimensional adjustment technology in the pectoral area, unique in the market, which provides a perfect fit and greater comfort, enabling the patient to better tolerate the treatment. To achieve this, it functions by being able to move on three axes thanks to its system of pectoral hinges.

In addition, the articulating pelvic support enables the patient to be seated without difficulty and can be fixed at a specific angle. For its part, the dorsolumbar support can be placed horizontally or vertically for greater patient comfort.

And finally, the closure system of this new brace is extremely secure. It features a concealed catch that enables it to be released and prevents accidental opening due to friction or being knocked. It is simple and easy to use.

All of this ensures effective hyperextension of the spine, by means of a three-point support system; unloading of the vertebrae in the lower thoracic and upper lumbar areas; stabilisation and restriction of movement of the spine and pain relief.

And as for patient comfort, Orliman’s new Jewett hyperextension brace is made from thermoformed foam fabric. Functionality, comfort and security are the cornerstones of Orliman’s product research and innovation.

Remember though that, although we have improved the product, treatment success still depends on correctly following a number of guidelines:

  • Always follow the specialist’s instructions regarding how long you need to wear the brace for.
  • Go for regular check-ups.
  • Always wear a cotton T-shirt underneath to prevent irritation or injury, even though the new Orliman brace is made from comfortable fabric.
  • Do not allow the brace to interfere with your day-to-day activities.
