Traumatic brain injury is the leading cause of hospital admission for infants under 12 months, mainly due to falls. In these cases, it is important to act quickly because infants at this age have the greatest risk of suffering brain injuries as their skulls are not yet fully formed.
Use of cranial protection helmets by infants suffering from mild head injuries helps their recovery and prevents knocks and bumps and possible head injury after-effects.

Cranial protection helmet, protection against head injury
Head injury is very common in childhood. Most cases are mild and do not cause after-effects. This is known as mild head injury. That said, it is still important to act quickly and go to the doctor to rule out possible injuries to the brain. Especially if the following symptoms of traumatic brain injury in infants appear:
- Repeated vomiting.
- Severe headache.
- Loss of consciousness.
- Wounds that do not stop bleeding.
- Gait or speech disorders.
Assessment of children is based on medical history, physical examination and radiological tests. Severity will be determined by the possibility of suffering brain damage and by age. These tests will determine the risk of head injury (high, intermediate or low), which will determine the treatment of the mild head injury. If it is high, the patient will be referred to the hospital. In intermediate cases, the patient will be kept under observation for 4 to 6 hours and, if it is low, the patient will be discharged and given a number of paediatric TBI recommendations. In these cases, the prognosis is good and patients usually recover within 24-48 hours.
These paediatric TBI recommendations mainly consist of monitoring at home. Monitoring the patient’s state of consciousness, changes in character, onset of vomiting, vision disorders, etc… These situations do not usually occur and children recover without head injury after-effects.
In fact, regarding possible head injury after-effects in children, the prognosis is usually much more positive than in adults. This is due to the plasticity and reorganisation capacity of the immature brain. However, depending on severity, head injury after-effects can lead to loss of intellectual ability, epilepsy or death.
The cranial protection helmet aids recovery from mild head injury
Prevention and avoiding factors that trigger the injury are also important. Use of a cranial protection helmet helps protect the skull from bruising and prevents more serious injuries.
At Orliman, we have designed a cranial protection helmet for infants from 0 to 9 months. It is a cranial protection helmet that adapts to the infant’s head and provides strength and durability. In addition, it features all of the necessary protections to prevent discomfort and chafing and ensure comfort for the infant.
Use of a cranial protection helmet protects against future injuries
Almost all infants have accidents. That is why it is important to be aware of them and try to prevent problems. But these appear when you least expect it. In most cases, it is a mild head injury, but quick intervention and subsequent monitoring will help you avoid the serious after-effects of this problem.
